Master naturalist course offered for kids

A junior master naturalist course is planned for July 24 to 28 at the Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge, 12985 U.S. 50 East, Seymour.

The course is oriented toward students ages 9 to 13, involves hands-on activities and consists of half-day morning classes on plants, wildlife, geology, wetlands and other natural resource topics. Classes are scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon July 24 to 27 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 28. Most course sessions will be located at or around the refuge Visitor Center.

Different subjects will be covered each day, and students will be expected to attend all sessions and complete volunteer work to receive a junior master naturalist patch and certificate.

A $15 fee is payable at the first class to cover course materials. Advance registration for the course is required, and parents or guardians must sign a permission slip at the first class meeting.
