NEW YORK — A bicyclist is in serious condition after he was hit by a driver fleeing police near New York’s Penn Station.

Police say officers were trying to pull over the driver Sunday night when he accelerated, hitting the 32-year-old cyclist and narrowly missing a crowd of pedestrians. The driver did not stop after hitting the victim, driving two blocks away before being blocked by oncoming traffic.

Police say the driver then attempted to flee on foot, but was caught and arrested nearby. The driver had a passenger in his car who was brought in for questioning by police.
