Shoplifting call ends in arrest

Columbus police arrested a local man on drug-related and theft charges after they were called to a store about shoplifting.

Officer Zach Wright was sent to the 3000 block of North National Road at 12:40 p.m. Saturday and spoke with Michael A. Dunham, 29, 8161 E. Rockwood St., Columbus, outside the store, said Officer Alyson Rech, Columbus Police Department spokeswoman.

According to store security, Dunham concealed a pair of shoes in the front of his pants and left the store without paying for them, Rech said.

After Dunham was arrested, officers found drug paraphernalia, including a spoon and syringe, inside Dunham’s pants, Rech said.

Dunham was arrested on preliminary charges of theft, possession of paraphernalia and possession of a legend drug injection device.

He is being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $65,000 bond, jail officials said.
