Woman arrested on drug-related charges after traffic stop

Columbus police arrested a local woman on multiple drug-related charges after receiving anonymous tips about possible drug activity in the area of McKinley Avenue and Parkway Drive.

At 9:45 p.m. Monday, Columbus Police Sgt. Kyle Young and Officer Travis Harbaugh were patrolling the area when they observed a vehicle disregard a stop sign, said Officer Alyson Rech, Columbus Police Department spokeswoman.

The officers stopped the vehicle near McKinley and Gladstone avenues and made contact with the driver, Kelly R. Herron, 35, 1931 Keller Ave., Rech said.

A police K9 from the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department arrived and detected an odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle, Rech said.

Officers searched the vehicle and found a cigarette containing marijuana in the front ashtray and a syringe on the floorboard, Rech said. A burned spoon was also located in Herron’s purse, Rech said.

Herron was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of marijuana, possession of a legend drug injection device and possession of paraphernalia, Rech said.
