Brian’s picks – June 29

1) Dave Albrecht makes his living crooning about a dreamy life away from making a living, where roaring waves splash along white sand beaches that form a tropical paradise. If you need such a getaway, even for an evening, catch Albrecht and his bandmates as Parrots of the Caribbean, a Jimmy Buffett tribute band headlining the next free JCB NeighborFEST from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. July 6 in front of The Commons, 300 Washington St. in downtown Columbus. The gathering includes food and drink options from nearby restaurants. Information: Columbus Area Arts Council at 812-376-2539 or artsincolumbus.org.

2) I grew up loving John Denver when his success was at an all-time (Rocky Mountain) high in the mid-1970s. The late pop singer who was so fond of nature could have written about ragweed back then and enjoyed yet another hit. Singer John Adams will present a John Denver tribute concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Brown County Playhouse, 70 S. Van Buren St. in Nashville. Tickets are $25 for adults and $24 for students, seniors and military members. For tickets or information, 812-988-6555 or browncountyplayhouse.org.
