Fill up today to beat tax increase

Gas gauge nearing low? Today might be a good time to change that.

A 10 cents per gallon gasoline tax increase goes into effect Saturday in Indiana, which currently charges 18 cents a gallon in state taxes.

It is among dozens of taxes and fees imposed or increased by Indiana lawmakers during this year’s legislative session, with revenues to go toward funding road construction projects.

Prices at the pump have been trending down. In fact, motorists should expect the lowest unleaded gasoline prices heading into the July 4 holiday since 2005, reports gasbuddy.com.

Three years ago, July 4 holiday gasoline prices in Indiana averaged $3.67 a gallon, reports AAA.
