Brinegar takes 40th in 400 freestyle

Columbus native Michael Brinegar finished 40th in the 400-meter freestyle in 3 minutes, 58.92 seconds Friday in the Phillips 66 U.S. Nationals at IUPUI’s Indiana University Natatorium.

Brinegar, a former Columbus North student, will be a senior in Mission Viejo, California. He competes for the Mission Viejo Natadores.

North graduate falls in Boys State Junior

Recent Columbus North graduate Bryce Turner fell to Ben Szklarek of Granger 1-up Friday in the Round of 32 of the Boys State Junior Championship at Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville.

Turner, who was seeded 59th following two rounds of stroke play, upset No. 6-seed Lucas Beck of Zionsville in Thursday’s opening round.
