A $12.2 million federal funding request for the Columbus “front door” redesign of the Interstate 65 and Jonathan Moore Pike interchange was cut to $4.8 million by the U.S. House Appropriations Committee.

Purdue University senior Charles Whittington of Elizabethtown was chosen to wear the papier-mache head and colorful garb of the school’s mascot, Purdue Pete, at football games and other events during the next school year.
