Letter: Buyers beware of property tax increases

The Bartholomew County Assessor’s Office can increase your property assessment based solely on the sale price, not on the property’s assessed value. Buyers beware of these property tax increases.

My son bought a home in September 2016 and the assessor increased the property tax $2,000 a year.

I am an 82-year-old disabled Vietnam veteran. I helped my son by getting appeal data from the assessor’s office. On May 2, 2017, the assessor seemed to have retaliated against me by raising my property tax by $400 per year.
