Dr. Delbert W. Evans, 89, of Columbus, passed away on June 28, 2017, at Premier Health Care in North Vernon.

Del, with his brother Ed, came to Columbus in 1960 and opened Evans Chiropractic Clinic. They served the community for over 34 years. He had a true passion for the health and well-being of others.

He especially loved spending time with his family. Dr. Evans was very proud of his service in the United States Army as a paratrooper. He was an avid athlete throughout his life, even winning medals in the Senior Olympics. He loved golf as well as softball, basketball, waterskiing and piloting his own plane.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Daniel Cash officiating. In following with his wishes, cremation has taken place.

Dr. Evans was born Feb. 15, 1928, in Swickley, Pennsylvania, to the late Harold and May Spriggs Evans.

He married Patricia McCampbell Shofner on July 22, 1995, in Columbus.

Survivors include his children, Stephen Evans of Longwood, Florida, Paul (Christine) Evans of Sacramento, California, Delanie (Paul) Tondera of Atlanta, Georgia, Leslee Evans of San Diego, California, Kimberly (Nelson) Hand and Scott (Barbara) Shofner, both of Columbus; grandchildren, Bradley (Kirsten) Shofner, Brandon (Morgan) Shofner, Kimberli Hand, Peyton Hand, John (Drew) Schmidt, Jonathan (Tanya) Evans and Chris Evans; four great-grandchildren; brother, Dr. Edward (Barbara) Evans of North Reddington Beach, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

Del was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Jo Anne Evans Stephens; brothers, Bob and Blackie Evans; grandson, Evan Schmidt; and brother-in-law, Allen McCampbell.
