Local man arrested after being accused of biting police officer

A local man was arrested after he was accused of biting a Columbus police officer during a scuffle.

Columbus police officers were sent to the 1000 block of Phoenix Court at 12:30 p.m. Monday about an unresponsive man inside a vehicle in a parking lot, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department. When officers arrived, they found the man with a large knife and baseball bat inside the car as well as items associated with the use and distribution of narcotics, Harris said.

Officers woke up Christopher A. Riddle, 38, Columbus, who struggled with officers as they attempted to secure him in handcuffs, Harris said. Riddle bit a CPD officer’s arm and a Taser was used to take Riddle into custody, Harris said.

During the incident, officers could hear people in a nearby apartment making threats toward them as they struggled with Riddle, Harris said. Officers later located Jayson D. Ackenback, 33, Columbus, hiding in a closet inside the apartment, Harris said. A parole warrant was confirmed for his arrest and he was also taken into custody.
