Letter: Cummins’ commitment to Columbus valued

From: Randall Tucker

Columbus

As former director of the company’s community and public relations function, I continue to be grateful and inspired by Cummins’ continued leadership, commitment and generosity to our growing and dynamic community.

Vividly inscribed in my mind is J. Irwin Miller’s vision for Columbus and Cummins which he outlined for me in a call to his office in late 1959. I had just been promoted at Cummins to the position of supervisor of community relations, which also included being secretary of the Cummins Foundation.

His vision was simple and powerful — Columbus would be a model community with strong churches, quality schools and generous, insightful, supportive, welcoming and involved residents — a community which would enable Cummins to be a leading world company.

Mr. Miller would be proud of both his company and community.
