North grad tied for third in Indiana Open

First-round co-leader Michael VanDeventer carded a 1-over-par 73 in the second round and is tied for third at 3-under 140 going into the final round of the Indiana Open Championship.

The second round at the took three days to complete on the Purdue-Kampen Course because of weather delays. The event has been shortened to 54 holes and will conclude today on the Ackerman-Allen course, site of Monday’s opening round.

Brian Maurer of Richmond is in first at 135, four shots ahead of Michael Davan of Zionsville. VanDeventer, a Columbus North graduate who will be a senior at Ball State, is tied with Craig Bowden five shots off the lead.

City golf tournament starts this weekend

The Columbus city men’s golf tournament gets under way this weekend, with golfers playing Greenbelt on Saturday and Harrison Lake Country Club on Sunday.

The women’s city tourney will begin July 22 at Greenbelt. Both the men’s and women’s final rounds will be July 23 at Otter Creek.

Otter Creek to host state women’s tournament

The Indiana Women’s Golf Association tournament will be Saturday and Sunday at Otter Creek. Play begins at 11 a.m. both days.

Four local golfers are entered, including former champion Tobi Herron. Also in the tourney are Columbus North graduates Sydney and Holly Anderson, who will be a junior and a freshman, respectively, at Ball State; and Columbus East graduate Rebecca Smith, who will be a sophomore at LaSalle.
