Columbus police arrested an Edinburgh man on multiple charges after he was accused of attempting the leave the scene of a property damage crash and was held at the scene by witnesses.
Police were sent to the 2400 block of Taylor Road at 10:30 a.m. Saturday after a vehicle driven by Derek R. Jordan, 21, Edinburgh, hit a curb, disabling his minivan, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
Jordan attempted to flee on foot but was held by a couple of men who saw the crash, Harris said.
Officer Brian Voyles, who was off duty but was driving his patrol car nearby, stopped to assist the witnesses, Harris said. Jordan continued to be combative and began striking his head against the CPD patrol car, leaving two large dents, Harris said.
Jordan was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital for treatment and was later taken to the Bartholomew County Jail, held on preliminary charges of battery, driving without ever receiving a license, resisting law enforcement, leaving the scene of a property damage crash, false informing and a Bartholomew County warrant, Harris said.
