Man arrested on drug-related charges after traffic stop

Columbus police arrested a local man on drug-related charges after a traffic stop.

Officer Ivan Shultz saw a vehicle on Eighth Street near Reed Street traveling without a license plate at 5 p.m. Saturday, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Shultz spoke with the driver, identified as Matthew R. Nelson, 25, of Edinburgh, and confirmed a warrant was pending for his arrest, Harris said.

Officers also found a needle and methamphetamine that Nelson had concealed in his clothing, Harris said. Nelson was arrested on preliminary charges of felony possession of methamphetamine, felony possession of a legend drug injection device and a Jennings County warrant for methamphetamine possession, Harris said.

Nelson is being held without bond in the Bartholomew County Jail, jail officials said.
