MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. — Police say a northwestern Indiana man has surrendered to police following the hit-and-run death of a 5-year-old girl.

The Michigan City Police Department says 35-year-old Marcus R. Scully of Trail Creek was charged Thursday with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.

Police say an attorney contacted detectives Thursday morning, saying a client wanted to provide information about the Tuesday evening collision that fatally injured Delaney Klewer.

Scully is being held on $15,000 cash bond.

The surrender came one day after Delaney’s parents issued a public plea for the driver to come forward. It wasn’t clear Thursday whether that had motivated Scully.

Relatives have said Delaney and her 8-year-old sister were returning home from a park two blocks from their home when the collision occurred.
