SUMTER, S.C. — Authorities say a 41-year-old woman was walking in the road when she was struck and killed by a car in South Carolina.

Sumter Police said a driver on her way to work hit Berlese Botwe on the access road that runs beside the U.S. 378 freeway in Sumter.

Investigators say the driver told them she couldn’t see Botwe, who was walking in the road around 3:20 a.m. Thursday.

Police said in a news release that no charges are expected against the driver, but their investigation continues.
