EAST GREENWICH, R.I. — A Rhode Island man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison after officials say he tried to arrange sex with an 8-year-old girl.

Stephen Ferrante, of East Greenwich, had pleaded guilty to related charges in April.

Prosecutors say the 62-year-old man posted an ad on Craigslist in January looking for “open-minded” parents.

Officers posing as parents arranged a meeting with Ferrante in Warwick. Agents from the Rhode Island Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force arrested Ferrante when he arrived January 12.

A U.S. District Court judge handed Ferrante his sentence Thursday, and ordered the man to serve five years of supervised release after his prison sentence.
