INDEPENDENCE, Iowa — Officials are searching for the missing driver of a delivery truck that crashed into the Wapsipinicon River near Independence in eastern Iowa.

The Courier reports ( ) that the mostly-submerged truck was found Friday morning by kayakers on the river. There was no sign of the driver.

Authorities declined to release the driver’s name. Authorities searched the area Friday, and the truck was removed from the river with the help of volunteer drivers with Cedar Valley Underwater Search and Recovery. The search was suspended Friday night.

A preliminary investigation showed the truck was headed west on Highway 20 when it left the roadway just before a bridge. It clipped a guardrail, traveled down the grass median and vaulted off the embankment into the river.
