KALISPELL, Mont. — A land conservation group says it has raised nearly all the money needed to protect habitat for sandhill cranes and dozens of other bird species in northern Montana.
Flathead Land Trust says two recent gifts put the group just $4,000 away from raising the $1.4 million necessary to complete the project.
The Montana Fish and Wildlife Conservation Trust has given $40,000 and Montana’s Outdoor Legacy Foundation has donated $5,000.
The money will go toward protecting 400 acres of farmland from future development.
The Flathead Beacon reports (http://bit.ly/2ukYzCI) the property includes a 45-acre wetland used by tens of thousands of migratory birds every year.
