MILFORD, Conn. — Connecticut officials say a body has been found in the area where a man was reported missing after he was swept off a sandbar.

The Milford Fire Department says the body was located near Silver Sands State Park Sunday evening.

The body has not been identified.

Police say 28-year-old George Swaby, of Bridgeport, and another man were swept into the Long Island Sound by a wave while attempting to walk a sandbar from the park to Charles Island Friday.

The unidentified man was rescued, but Swaby couldn’t be located after searches Friday evening and Saturday morning.

Officials urge people to avoid walking on the sandbar.
