SHREVEPORT, La. — Authorities say they have recaptured a 19-year-old who eluded police after he was initially arrested on armed robbery and other charges.

The Shreveport Times reports Peyton Smith was recaptured Saturday and charged with simple escape, illegal use of a weapon and armed robbery.

Police received a call of an armed robbery Thursday at about 1:00 p.m. The victim told police that Smith had stolen his handgun from his vehicle and used it to rob him of an undisclosed amount of property.

Shreveport police said in a statement that officers had Smith in the back of a marked patrol car Friday, but he managed to manipulate the handcuffs and escape.

It’s unclear if Smith has a lawyer.
