COLUMBIA, S.C. — Authorities say a woman who left four dogs to die in a bedroom with no food, water or air conditioning for a month last summer has been convicted of ill treatment of animals.

Richland County deputies said in a news release that a jury found 35-year-old Latisha Todd guilty of four felony counts after a trial last week.

Prosecutors say testimony showed that Todd left the dogs in a bedroom of a home with no electricity in early June 2016 while she visited family in Pennsylvania.

Deputies say a family member checking on the home found all four dogs dead on July 3, 2016.

Todd is awaiting sentencing. She faces up to five years in prison on each count.
