NEW HAVEN, Conn. — New Haven police have charged a man in the shooting of a 13-year-old boy who survived a gunshot wound to his leg.

Authorities arrested 21-year-old city resident Charles Worthington at his home Tuesday morning. He is detained on $1 million bail on charges of first-degree assault, carrying a pistol without a permit and risk of injury to a minor.

The boy was shot Saturday afternoon. Police have not released a motive, but say the boy likely was not the intended target.

City police say they do not believe the shooting was related to several others over the past two weeks that are under investigation. Two of the other shootings involved minors, one of whom died.

It wasn’t clear if Worthington had retained an attorney who could respond to the allegations.
