Indy woman charged in Bartholomew County for false informing after rape investigation

COLUMBUS, Indiana — An Indianapolis woman has charged with false informing in Bartholomew County after she admitted an allegation she made of being raped was false.

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a rape at about 11:35 p.m. June 11. Tiffany McGinnis, 29, told deputies that she was raped by her ex-boyfriend while under the overpass at U.S. 31 and Interstate 65.

McGinnis was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital. Deputies searched the area but did not the ex-boyfriend or any evidence, sheriff’s department spokeswoman Judy Jackson said.

While investigating and looking for the boyfriend, deputies learned that McGinnis had been charged with false informing in Morgan and Lawrence counties for the same type of allegation, and had made similar reports in Indianapolis, Bloomington and Bedford, Jackson said.
