Arrest made after vehicle stolen in Jennings County

Columbus police have recovered a vehicle reported stolen from Jennings County earlier this month and have arrested a Johnson County man in connection with the case, police said.

Evert L. Jimenez, 21, of S. County Road 537E, Franklin, was arrested after a Columbus Police Department officer conducted a routine license plate check, department spokesman Lt. Matt Harris said.

Sgt. Ben Goodin conducted the check on a white Toyota Corolla near 12th and Pearl streets at about 7:30 p.m. Monday, Harris said. Officers stopped the vehicle and detained the driver, identified as Jimenez, and confirmed the vehicle was stolen and that Jimenez did not have a license, Harris said.

Jimenez was arrested on charges of auto theft and operating a vehicle without ever receiving a license. He is being held in the Bartholomew County Jail on $10,000 bond, according to jail officials.
