HILLCREST, N.Y. — Police in a New York City suburb say a taxi driver who was shot last week while off-duty has died.

The Journal News reports (http://lohud.us/2uWRbyn ) 23-year-old Rem Louis died Tuesday. Police say Louis was driving his taxi in Hillcrest in Rockland County when a car pulled up alongside the driver’s side door. Investigators say a gunshot from the other car struck Louis in the head.

Emergency responders found Louis after he had crashed into a tree.

Police have arrested one of the occupants of the other car. The suspect has been charged with second-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault.

Police haven’t released any other information.
