BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A 20-year-old Alabama man accused of shooting his uncle has been charged with murder.

AL.com reports that Devonte Desmond Bembo was arrested on Thursday in connection with the fatal shooting of 26-year-old Edward Lamar Davis. Birmingham police Lt. Sean Edwards says that officers were dispatched Tuesday night to the city’s Wylam neighborhood and found Davis lying in a roadway with gunshot wounds.

Police say an altercation between Davis and Bembo, his nephew, got physical. Police say during the escalating incident Bembo pulled out a gun and opened fire on Davis before running away.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service attempted to save Davis before he died at the scene.

Records show that Bembo is held in the Jefferson County Jail on a $75,000 bond.

It’s unclear if Bembo has an attorney.
