People making travel plans to visit Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean or Bermuda are reminded that they will need a U.S. passport at land borders and sea ports of entry to return home.

If you need to obtain a new passport or renew an expiring one, the U.S. Postal Service is conducting Passport Day at 52 Indiana post offices, including the main branch in Columbus at 450 Jackson St. during normal business hours, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Passport fees are $135 total for people 16 years and older, which consists of a payment of $25 to the Postal Service for its processing fee, and $110 paid to the Department of State for the passport application fee. For persons under 16, the total cost is $105, which includes a $25 processing fee to the Postal Service and $80 to the State Department. The Postal Service also offers a passport photo service at a cost of $15.

The passport application must be paid by cash or check. All applicants must appear in person.
