HAMBURG, N.Y. — Officials in western New York say one of three tornadoes that touched down outside of Buffalo last week caused about $3 million in damage to the local fairgrounds.

Erie County Fair officials say the tornado that tore through the town of Hamburg on July 20 knocked down dozens trees, broke windows and tore off roofs on buildings on the fairgrounds located just south of Buffalo.

With the fair scheduled to open on Aug. 9, crews are busy finishing cleaning up and repairing the damage caused by the twister, one of three to touch down that day in the county. No injuries were reported.

Officials estimate the Hamburg tornado caused up to $3 million in damage, but they expect the fair to open on schedule.
