PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Part of the east passage of Narragansett Bay will be closed on Saturday.

Around 500 swimmers and nearly 200 kayakers are expected to participate in the annual Save the Bay Swim Saturday morning between Newport and Jamestown.

The route begins at the Newport Navy base and continues 1.7 miles across the bay to Jamestown.

From 6 a.m. Saturday until 10 a.m. Saturday, vessel traffic will be restricted in the east passage, between Gould Island and Jamestown, and extending to the Pell Newport Bridge.

Vessel traffic may pass on the west side of Jamestown during that time.
