COLUMBUS
Robert J. Owings, 86, of Columbus died at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, July 27, 2017, at Keepsake Village of Columbus.
Robert was born in Jennings County September 28, 1930, the son of William and Daisy Davis Owings. He married Jane Newcomb and she survives.
He was a member of Faith Victory Church of Columbus and enjoyed being active in all church activities; he also enjoyed his home in the country. He worked for Indiana Bell Telephone Company 36 years, retiring as a supervisor. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Owings of Columbus; sons, Rob (Carole) Owings and Mark (Dona) Owings, both of Columbus; grandchildren, Joshua Owings of St. Louis, MO and Whitney Owings (Andy) Austin of Tampa, FL.
He was preceded in death by parents; and a son, Brent Owings.
Funeral service will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Monday at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street with Pastor Mark Owings officiating. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to service time Monday. Burial with Military Rites by the Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard will be in Garland Brook Cemetery.
