ALBANY, N.Y. — New York state wildlife officials are encouraging residents to help with a turkey survey this August.
The state Department of Environmental Conservation conducts a wild turkey survey every August to estimate the average number of newborns per hen in different parts of the state.
Volunteers are asked to record the sex and ages of wild turkeys observed during normal travel over the course of the month.
The results help wildlife managers get a sense of wild turkey populations.
Those interested in participating can download a survey form and information at www.dec.ny.gov/animals/48732.html or at a regional DEC office.
