WEST NEWTON, Pa. — Authorities have opened a homicide investigation into the early morning death of a man shot and killed outside a Pennsylvania home.

The Westmoreland County coroner’s office said 40-year-old Melvin Grazetti Jr. died of a shotgun wound to the chest after he was shot shortly after 3:30 a.m. Saturday.

The coroner’s report said he was shot after knocking on the door of a home in western Pennsylvania’s South Huntingdon Township. State police at the Belle Vernon barracks said he “attempted to forcibly enter the residence.”

Grazetti was pronounced dead at the scene about two hours later. No arrests were immediately announced.
