Officials say a break-in suspect shot during a struggle with two police officers inside an apartment in central California has died.

The two officers were also wounded and Los Banos Police Chief Gary Brizzee says they are in stable condition.

He says the suspect died at a Modesto-area hospital. His name has not been released.

Authorities say the report of a break-in came shortly after 6 a.m. in Los Banos, a small farming community in the San Joaquin Valley between San Francisco and Los Angeles.

They say the two officers confronted the suspect inside the apartment, and that a shooting occurred. They didn’t immediately release any details about how it happened.

They say the investigation is ongoing.

Officials say two police officers in a Central California farming community have been shot in a struggle with a man, who was also struck by gunfire.

Los Banos City Manager Alex Terrazas confirmed the shooting happened early Monday. He had no details about the officers’ conditions or the circumstances.

The Merced Sun-Star reports (http://bit.ly/2wdZyTd ) that officers struggled with a man at an apartment complex and he gained control of an officer’s weapon.

The newspaper reports that the man was also shot. His condition was also not available Monday.

Los Banos is a small community off Interstate 5 in the farming region of the San Joaquin Valley midway between San Francisco and Los Angeles.
