JEFFERSON, Ga. — Police in Georgia say a man killed his son and wounded his wife before shooting himself to death in the family home.

The police chief in Jefferson, Joe Wirthman, tells the Athens Banner-Herald that 46-year-old Thomas Phillip Powers fatally shot 26-year-old Phillip Tyler Powers before taking his own life.

The shootings happened Sunday night, and 45-year-old Donna Marie Powers was able to call for medical help. She remained hospitalized Monday and was undergoing surgery.
