BONNEY LAKE, Wash. — Authorities say a 22-year-old man has died after being pulled unconscious from Lake Tapps in Pierce County.

KOMO reports ( ) the man was swimming around 6:25 p.m. Sunday when he went past the roped-in section at Allan Yorke City Park.

Once he made it about 100 yards from shore, we went under water. His friends were back on shore and realized they couldn’t see him anymore and began yelling for help. Bonney Lake Police already had a boat in the water and began searching for the man. Two divers from the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department joined the search.

Divers eventually found the man under water and brought him to a waiting ambulance on the shore. Medics performed CPR but he died at a local hospital.
