Sheriff’s department rescues 2 with airboat

Two Shelby County kayakers were rescued by the Bartholomew County water rescue team after their kayak flipped in the Flat Rock River.

Kevin M. Malone and Gretchen E. Anderson, who live in Shelby County and have Edinburgh addresses, were kayaking on the river at 12:42 p.m. Saturday when the kayak flipped and the water rescue team’s airboat was sent to pick them up, Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies said.

The two were on the river bank at North County Road 25E and East County Road 550N near Owens Bend Park, deputies said.

The airboat was sent out at 3:04 p.m. to pick the two up from the bank and the rescue was completed at 3:24 p.m., said Capt. Brandon Slate.
