CASTLETON, Vt. — A group of tenants in a Vermont mobile home park is planning on buying the park and upgrading it with $362,000 in federal grant funding.
The Rutland Herald reports (http://bit.ly/2tVp3bs ) the Windy Hollow Mobile Home Cooperative is working to purchase the similarly named mobile home park in Castleton.
Robin Crowningshield, chairwoman of the cooperative, says they received notice the owner was selling the park two years ago. Crowningshield says the cooperative is working with the Cooperative Development Institute on buying the park, for about $1 million.
The deputy commissioner of the state Department of Housing and Community Development says the displacement and effort to find replacement housing would have cost the state more than cooperative ownership.
The sale is pending an environmental review as required by the grant.
