GARFIELD, Ark. — A northwest Arkansas man has been arrested in the shooting death of his mother.

The Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that Benton County deputies arrested 20-year-old Patrick Malone of Garfield on suspicion of capital murder Monday. Formal charges are pending.

Court records show Patrick’s father, Danny Malone, called 911 Monday, saying his son fatally shot his wife.

Authorities say they found 44-year-old Christel Malone dead from gunshot wounds. A gun was in a holster on a table.

Court records show Patrick Malone told police he shot his mother and that he thought about killing her for several years. He said the two hated each other.

Deputy Public Defender Kevin Lammers requested bond be set at $100,000, but it was set at $250,000.

Malone remained in the Benton County Jail on Wednesday.
