CONWAY, S.C. — South Carolina and Coastal Carolina will play for the first time in nearly a quarter century as part of a three-game series starting this December.

Chants coach Cliff Ellis announced the series Wednesday. The first two games will be played at South Carolina while the third will take place at Coastal, the first time the Gamecocks have played on the Chants’ campus.

The teams last played in December 1993 with Coastal Carolina defeating the Gamecocks 88-74. Their only other meeting was January 1989, with South Carolina winning 92-65.

Both programs had successful postseasons in 2016-17. The Gamecocks advanced to the Final Four after making the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 13 years. The Chanticleers reached the championship series of the CBI Tournament, falling to Wyoming.
