PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — Police believe a 27-year-old man found dead on a sidewalk in Portsmouth had fallen from the roof of a three-story building.

Police Chief Robert Merner said first responders were notified by an Uber driver about someone lying on a sidewalk early Friday.

He says the preliminary investigation points to a fall from the roof.

The chief tells the Portsmouth Herald that the man had just moved into an apartment in the building. He says police have no reason to believe the death was a suicide.

An autopsy was to be performed.
