Loretta Mae Walden Katterhenry, 76, of Columbus, Indiana, died at 12:52 a.m. Thursday, August 3, 2017, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility with her devoted husband by her side after a long battle with ovarian cancer.

Loretta was born June 28, 1941, in Tompkinsville, Kentucky, the daughter of William Clyde and Clara Belle Bowles Walden. She married Edgar Katterhenry on December 19, 1970, at the First United Methodist Church, Columbus, Indiana.

Loretta loved to work in the garden, canning and freezing the vegetables she raised. She also loved working in her greenhouse. She loved to make quilts, gifting many of them, and she enjoyed working at Pit Stop at Asbury United Methodist Church where she attended. She also enjoyed traveling, especially cruises, with friends and family.

Loretta was a 45-year member of Gamma Xi Chapter of Kappa Delta Phi National Sorority. She actively served as an officer on the Chapter level, Regional level, and National level. She served as National President two years and Chairman of the Board two years. She was devoted to her Sorority and loved her Sorority Sisters.

She worked at Courier Newsom Express in accounting for 15 years and as a Life and Health insurance agent until she retired.

Loretta is survived by her husband of 46 years; one brother, William Franklin (Adalene) Walden of Louisville, Kentucky; three sisters, Clara Winona Simpson of Crossville, Tennessee, Judy Ann Giles of Anderson, Indiana and Bessie Belva (Jimmy) Bagshaw of Burkesville, Kentucky; five nieces; and four nephews. Loretta was preceded in death by her parents and one niece.

Funeral services will be conducted at Asbury United Methodist Church, Columbus, Indiana, at 11 a.m. Friday, August 11, 2017, with Pastor Dave Blystone officiating. Friends and family may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, August 10th, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, 3855 25th Street, Columbus, Indiana, and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Loretta’s body will then be transferred to Zoar United Methodist Church, Zoar, Indiana, in Dubois County, where a second funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 12th, with Pastor Dave Blystone officiating and Pastor Keith Chanley assisting. Calling will be one hour prior to the service at the church in Zoar. Burial will follow at Zoar Cemetery near Holland, Indiana.

Memorials in Loretta’s name are suggested to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or Zoar Cemetery Association.
