SAN DIEGO — Police say the body of an 80-year-old man was found inside a car about 40 feet down an embankment in San Diego.

Sgt. Tom Sullivan says a passerby spotted the crashed Subaru Sunday afternoon just east of San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

The Union-Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/2hCFM1q ) the man was the only person in the car and appeared to have suffered major injuries.

It’s unclear what caused the crash. Investigators believe the vehicle overturned after it went off the road.

The medical examiner’s office will determine how the man died. His name was not released.
