RALEIGH, N.C. — A 1-year-old girl is dead after a collision on a North Carolina road, and the state Highway Patrol says it’s investigating the crash.

According to a statement from the patrol on Monday, 1-year-old Michelle Zavala was killed when the car she was riding in collided with a car traveling south on U.S. 401in Franklin County. The two cars were parallel to each other, and although the second car was in a right-turn lane, the patrol said that car continued heading south.

After that collision, the car the baby was in crossed the center line and hit another car before it went off the road and overturned into a creek. Four other people in the car were injured and taken to a Raleigh hospital.

The accident occurred on Friday.
