MERRIMACK, N.H. — Police in New Hampshire say a young driver who had sped away from a pursuing officer crashed his car minutes later and suffered life-threatening injuries.

WMUR-TV reports (http://bit.ly/2vERr56 ) an officer gave chase early Sunday after spotting a car driving on a highway in Merrimack with its headlights off.

Police say the officer lost track of the car as it car sped off and ended the pursuit. Minutes later, police came upon the wreckage of the car.

Police identified the driver only as an “underage male.” He was flown to a Boston hospital with severe injuries.

No one else was in the car.

State police are investigating the crash.
