COLUMBUS, Miss. — Police in one Mississippi city are investigating burglars invaded a house impersonating police officers.

The Columbus Police Department tells local media that two men broke into a house about 3 a.m. Monday yelling “CPD! CPD!”

A 27-year-old woman was home in bed with her two children. Police say both men were dressed in black and had their faces covered. One fired a gun, but didn’t injure anyone.

Police say the suspects appear to have broken in through a locked back door. Capt. Brent Swan says the incident is being investigated as an attempted armed robbery.
