CONWAY, S.C. — A North Carolina man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for killing his pregnant girlfriend and leaving her body in a South Carolina field.

Solicitor Jimmy Richardson announced Tuesday that 26-year-old Cristopher Kalb of Ash, North Carolina, pleaded guilty to murder for the death 22-year-old Shannon DiTillio.

Prosecutors say DiTillio was shot in the face on April 10, 2016. Her body was found the next day in a vacant lot in the community of Longs, about 25 miles northeast of Myrtle Beach. She was 16 weeks pregnant. Authorities believe it would’ve been their second child together.

Police say DiTillio came to South Carolina from Buffalo, New York, days earlier.

Assistant solicitor Seth Oskin called it a “tragic case.”
