BRIDGETON, N.J. — A former corrections officer has been sentenced to five years in prison for smuggling contraband for inmates.

Joshua Minguella was sentenced on Friday in Cumberland County.

The 32-year-old Vineland resident had pleaded guilty in May to one count of official misconduct.

An investigation in 2014 revealed he had smuggled contraband into the Cumberland County Jail in exchange for cash and controlled dangerous substances.

Minguella also will serve an 18-month sentence for spitting on members of the Vineland police department during his arrest in January 2017. That sentence will run concurrent to his five-year sentence.
