Efforts increasing to catch impaired drivers

Local residents should expect to see more sobriety checkpoints and patrols as the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department participates in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign now through Labor Day weekend.

The department is joining about 220 law enforcement agencies across Indiana and thousands nationwide in the campaign, according to a news release.

Driving with a blood-alcohol concentration of .08 percent of higher is illegal in every state and the District of Columbia, the news release said. In Indiana, drivers under 21 with a blood-alcohol concentration of .02 or higher are subject to fines and a license suspension for up to one year.
